Are drones allowed in Zambia?
Drones are allowed to operate in Zambia, subject to regulations set by the Zambia Civil Aviation Authority (ZCAA).
Zambia drone laws list
- To legally fly a drone in Zambia, you must obtain a Remote Pilot Aircraft Letter of Approval (RLA), a Certificate of Registration, and an RPAS Pilot’s License (RPL). The Zambia Civil Aviation Authority can provide you with all the necessary documents.
- Maximum altitude of 120 meters (394 feet)
- Altitude cannot exceed the height of the highest object within a 300-meter radius
- Drones must remain within the pilot's visual line of sight and cannot fly more than 500 meters horizontally away from the pilot (1,640 feet)
- Operators are required to have insurance
- Drones are not permitted to fly within a distance of ten kilometers (6.2 miles) of an airport
- Drones are not permitted to be flown near sensitive areas, such as nuclear power plants, prisons, police stations, crime scenes, or significant national facilities
- Launching or landing a drone on public roads is not permitted
Nighttime operation of drones is not possible - Drones over 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds) cannot be used for private purposes.
